Construction Site Workers

How does pay work in Austria?

In Austria, wages in many industries are regulated by so-called collective agreements. This also applies to construction and related trades.

A collective agreement is negotiated between employers and trade unions and defines:

  • minimum wages and salaries

  • working hours

  • bonuses (e.g. overtime pay)

  • other working conditions

This means you know from the start what you will earn at minimum – regardless of the company.

What does this mean for you?

Collective agreements ensure:

  • fair and transparent pay

  • clear rules for all companies

  • regular wage increases

This is especially important in construction, where the industry is well organized and offers stable income opportunities.

Your exact earnings depend on:

  • the field you work in (e.g. construction, carpentry, painting)

  • your level of experience

  • the type of work you do

That’s why there is no single wage, but different collective agreements depending on the profession.
